7 Things Your Cat Wants You To Know

It's no surprise that cats are one of the most popular pets in the United States. Between their sweet charm and intelligent personalities, they have it all going for them.

7 Things Your Cat Wants You To Know

But what if your cat wanted to tell you certain things? Here are 7 things we think your cat would want you to know for sure - straight from its mouth!

1. I like being outside, but I live longer if you keep me inside.

Outside is more like my natural habitat, with all sorts of wonders to explore and seek out. Be that as it may, it's not the best spot to live.

Did you know that I only have a lifespan of two to five years when I live outside? That's short! However, if you keep me inside, in the warmth and friendliness of your home, I can live up to 17 years! That means I'll give you another 15 years of hugs and kisses - just for you.

2. I only meow for you, not for other cats.

Cats don't need to meow at other cats, other than the occasional hiss we make when we feel threatened. We only meow for you humans! As kittens, we meow to tell our mothers that we need something to eat or a little more comfort.

As adult cats, we don't need to meow except to talk to you and tell you we are hungry, want to say hello, or that something is wrong. What's more: the more you converse with us, the more we will converse with you!

3. I want more dry feline food, please

I don't just look like a tiger ... I also need to eat like a tiger! As a cat, I am a true carnivore, which means I need a meat diet

I like to eat dry food to chomp on during the day, however, it's not the best eating regimen in case I just eat dry food. I am more prone to obesity and diabetes than my furry friends who eat wet food.

4. I need you to spend quality time with me once in a while - I get bored

When you go to work, I feel sad! I like to have company. If I don't have a sister or brother to play with, I need company even more. When you get home, don't just play with your phone or watch TV.

Spend time with me and challenge my senses! Play cat games with me and give me some exercise while giving us a chance to bond - just a human and a cat. Not only will I love you for it, but it will make me a little tired and I'll be ready for bed.

5. Sitting with me can help reduce stress and the risk of heart attack or stroke

Did you know that owning me reduces your risk of stroke by a third? It's so true! My gentle, furry spirit can help reduce your stress and anxiety levels and can even help you with treatment through the vibrations of my purr.

6. Don't get mad at me when I scratch, I need to scratch!

If you see me scratching your furniture, it's not because I want to destroy your couch. I just need a good place to stretch my paws and claws! I also need to get rid of some of the outer layers of my claws because they get old and brittle.

Sometimes I scratch on objects to mark my territory leaving claw marks and ascent. Don't blame me, it's my instinct! A good way to counteract this is to get trees or poles to scratch on. This way I know there is a safe place to stretch and scratch every day.

7. Just because you call my name doesn't mean I will come.

No matter how cute my cat's name is, you can call it a million times, I will still look out the window. Believe me, I know my name. I've taken in it from every one of the occasions you've told it to me. Because I'm a cat, I don't have to obey you like Fido, the neighbor.

If you call a dog, he comes running right away because you are higher in the pecking order. None of this matters to me. I remember everything from the last time you made me take that disgusting medicine to when you took me to the vet. That doesn't mean I don't love you, but I choose to do things my way.

I hope these cat care tips help you get closer to your little cat and help him live as healthy a life as possible, so he can spend more time dami
